Description

Go up Mount Teide by Cable Car

Enjoy the quickest way to go up Mount Teide.

When you get off the cable car, you will be at an altitude of 3,555 m, and will have various choices on how to take in the stunning views of the largest national park in the Canary Islands.

Choose the viewpoint of La Rambleta to behold the views of the Seven Cañadas and the Ucanca Valley.

If you prefer to see some spectacular views of the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, with the impressive Pico Viejo crater at your feet, which is 800 m in diameter and at one time, hosted an impressive lava lake, then choose the trail to the Pico Viejo viewpoint. You can take this tour of great scenic and volcanic interest with a guide, by booking the guided tour to the Pico Viejo viewpoint with a cable car ticket included.

Choose the trail to La Fortaleza to enjoy marvellous views of the northern part of Tenerife or to descend on foot from Montaña Blanca afterwards.

And if you are one of those people who won’t leave Tenerife without having reached the summit of Mt. Teide, choose the Telesforo Bravo trail to the peak of Teide and shout ‘I am the King of the world’ from an altitude of 3 718 m. But remember that for this trail, you will need a special free permit, issued by administration of the Teide National Park, which you must apply for months in advance.

Use the Teide Cable Car Online Tickets and take advantage of their benefits

Avoid queues at the ticket office and guarantee your seat by purchasing your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets online. You will enjoy tickets with an assigned session. It is as simple as booking a time slot for a specific date. You must show up at the Cable Car boarding area with your Online Ticket, either printed or displayed on your mobile phone, 20 minutes prior to the time specified on your Mount Teide Cable Car ticket in order to redeem it and access the boarding area to board the cabin afterwards.

If you haven’t booked your Teide Cable Car tickets online, you will be assigned one of the daily sessions available at the ticket office. However, if you choose this option, you might have to wait several hours in high season to board the cable car or you might even miss the chance to buy Mount Teide Cable Car tickets for the day of your visit, which is why we recommend that you purchase a Teide Cable Car Online Ticket and access the cabin directly.

If you arrive by private vehicle, which you will need to park, we recommend that you show up at the premises of the Cable Car prior to the time indicated on your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets, although we recommend that you avoid driving and choose collective transportation instead because it is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. Which is why we offer you our day tours: a half-day tour with Mount Teide Cable Car tickets included or a full-day tour for small groups, which also includes Mount Teide Cable Car tickets. If you finally arrive by car, it is best that you book your Mount Teide Cable Car tickets for a time slot after 1.00pm.

If for whatever reason you arrive too late for your session, you will lose the right to board and you will be assigned the next boarding time available.

Please remember that it is prohibited to make fire, loud noises or to camp.

Teide Cable Car facilities are perfectly equipped, including a shop, a café and a waiting room with Wi-Fi, among others, so that you can enjoy while you stay here.

The base station

The Teide Cable Car base station is perfectly accessible by road and is located at 2,356 m above sea level.

The views from the base station allow you to behold the spectacular peaks surrounding the Teide volcano.

The base station offers visitors a relaxation area, café and buffet restaurant with impressive views over Teide National Park as well as a souvenir shop and public toilets. This is also the perfect place to find out about the different routes and trails you can do from the upper station.

The upper station

The Teide Cable Car upper station is the starting point of three spectacular trails at the summit of Mount Teide , which are directly accessible from a small hall from where you can walk outside. It has Wi-Fi, toilets and the highest public telephone in all of Spain.

Although there is not a café in the upper station, you will have vending machines at your disposal with drinks and non-perishable food such as snacks.

We recommend that you come prepared for all weather conditions since the upper station is at an altitude of 3,555 m.

Avoid the car. Choose collective transportation. It is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. If you finally decide to arrive by car, please do so after 1.00pm.

The Teide Cable Car base station has a free car park with 220 parking spaces.

It is usually open to public from 8.00am to 6.00pm. In July, August and September, until 8.00pm, and in October, up until the clock change, until 7.00pm.

Outside these hours, the car park is closed and the entry and exit of vehicles is not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. You must show up at the boarding area with your purchase confirmation, either printed or displayed on your mobile phone, 20 minutes prior to the time specified on your ticket in order to redeem it and access the boarding area to board the cabin.

This blog article contains an interesting guide with the most important points of interest on each road that leads to Mount Teide. However, we recommend not using a car and choosing collective transportation because it is important that together we do what we can to counteract overuse of the vehicle parking areas in the National Park. As a conservation measure, they have been kept to a small size, and they cannot be extended. If you ultimately decide to come by car, it’s a good idea to arrive after 1.00pm.

The time slot for descent cannot be booked. The only thing you need to do is get in the queue at the upper station to descend in order of arrival.

If you are only going to buy a cable car descent ticket, we also recommend that you make the reservation online in order to avoid making the payment at the upper station, thus slowing down the queue.

No. Your reservation is valid for one year. You would only need to change the reserved date / time slot directly by following this link https://www.volcanoteide.com/en/manage_your_booking

or at the ticket office, free of charge and within one year from the originally booked date.

Remember that changes of tickets purchased at the ticket office are to be made at the ticket office as well within 30 days.

Yes. You can change the date of your booking or cancel it free of charge via Manage your booking.

Check out our weekly calendar of activities and excursions on Mt Teide which we have prepared so that you can view at a glance all the information you need about our activities.

Since the operation of the Cable Car is subject to the changing weather (wind speed, temperature, etc.), on occasions, the estimated boarding time may be delayed.

Your online reservation is valid for one year and you can modify or cancel it at any time at manage your booking.

No. Children under 3 are not allowed to ascend by Cable Car due to the risk that high altitude poses to their health.

No. You only need a permit to be able to reach the summit. You can either apply for it in advance on the National park’s website or obtain it by booking any of our hiking activities.

Yes. It only closes on December 25th. Any other closure of the facilities is due to causes beyond our control. You can confirm that the facilities are open by checking real-time updates in the Teide Today section. We have a free SMS notification service for these situations. So, if you’d like to receive an SMS in the event that adverse weather conditions the day of your booking might prevent the service from running as normal, please just provide a valid mobile phone number when you book your tickets.

No, pets are not allowed.

We do not have a left-luggage facility.

Ideally, about 30 minutes before the time your permit begins. If there are no places available in these time slots, we recommend that you book the previous time slot closest to the start time of your permit.

For area conservation reasons, the Teide National Park restricts the time to 1 hour. Also, staying at such an altitude for more than one hour increases the risk of suffering from altitude sickness.

If you have a permit to access the peak of Teide, you can stay longer at the summit, without exceeding the 2 hours you’re allowed to spend in this area.

You cannot use the Cable Car whilst pregnant, as the ascent involves a sudden change in pressure and level of oxygen.

No, it’s not necessary. You can download it and display it on the screen of any mobile device (phone, tablet, etc.).

Everything was excellent!

Truly amazing! Well organised with courteous and efficient staff. I can't believe I've waited so long to go there. I'm looking forward to the time when I'm able to go back!

Awesome experience!

2020/03/20

Amazing trip 🙌😍 next time im going to topp😊

2020/03/20

El Teide is one of the most remarkable places I have ever been. Thankfully, it is in very safe hands. I was particularly impressed by one small indication of the care taken by the management team. Each time the cable car finished a run, it was immediately deep-cleaned by the staff. This was very reassuring during the current pandemic. More broadly, the careful management of access to the mountain and maintenance of the paths, refuge and all the facilities should ensure that it remains unspoilt for future generations.

2020/03/17

A great half day out. Book at least 6 weeks in advance if you really want to go to the summit

2020/03/20

Very interesting. Website a bit misleading though as there was no need to pay for a guide. Could have gone unguided.

2020/03/15

Spectacular views***

2020/03/24

It was beautiful! But cold, we all brought winter jackets and i sugest everyone who is going there do the same.

2020/03/21

I enjoyed the cable car and views from the top of Teide. However the amount of time wasted at the bottom waiting for my time slot was disappointing. I think this could definitely be organised better. My time slot was about an hour late which is an hour wasted. Not really anything to do there either whilst waiting. Needs to be looked at and sorted.

2020/03/12

Breathtaking views! One of the loveliest sunsets I've been lucky to witness. Our guide, *** (for French & German), was very friendly and funny. I'd definitely recommend catching either the sunset or the sunrise from there. It's quite windy and it gets cold pretty quickly, so bring a jumper and a jacket and even gloves, if you intend to take a lot of pictures (you will). My only problem with the location is that the toilets are closed by the time the people with sunset tickets arrive and by the time they open again, too many people are waiting in line and there's not much time left until the tour starts. If you didn't book the star gazing tour, there are quite a few parking spots around that are still dark enough so you can park your car and do your own stargazing, albeit without tue equipment.

2020/02/26

We did the sunset tour. An absolutely brilliant experience led by the wonderfully knowledgable ***. I can highly recommend this, we will definitely do this again.
